The date given is from the first (“Patrologia Latina”) title page – I have sometimes noticed (e.g. PL 35) a discrepancy between the date on that page and that on the author title page.

The owners of the page have noted too the fact that some volumes have two different years of imprint into the same book. And in this case, too, they decided took the first number.
