He was briefly active as a priest in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Church_of_England\" title=\"Church of England\">Church of England<\/a>. Margoliouth was educated at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Winchester_College\" title=\"Winchester College\">Winchester<\/a>, where he was a scholar, and at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_College,_Oxford\" title=\"New College, Oxford\">New College, Oxford<\/a> where he graduated with a double first in Greats and won an unprecedented number of prizes in Classics and Oriental languages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">Many of his works on the history of Islam became the standard treatises in English, including <i>Mohammed and the Rise of Islam<\/i> (1905), <i>The Early Development of Mohammedanism<\/i> (1914), and <i>The Relations Between Arabs and Israelites Prior to the Rise of Islam<\/i> (1924)<sup class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Samuel_Margoliouth#cite_note-EB15-1\" title=\"\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">He was described as brilliant editor and translator of Arabic works<sup class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Samuel_Margoliouth#cite_note-EB15-1\" title=\"\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>, as seen in <i>The Letters of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abu%27l-%27Ala_of_Ma%27arrat_al-Nu%27man\" title=\"Abu'l-'Ala of Ma'arrat al-Nu'man\" class=\"mw-redirect\">Abu&#8217;l-&#8216;Ala of Ma&#8217;arrat al-Nu&#8217;man<\/a><\/i> (1898), <i>Yaqut&#8217;s Dictionary of Learned Men<\/i>, 6 vol.
